Liechtenstein

The modern history of Liechtenstein starts in 1806 when it became a sovereign state. Until 1918 it had close links to Austria, however, the economic devastation of WWI caused that Liechtenstein became closer to Switzerland, entering a customs and monetary union. During WWII the country remained neutral.

The country benefits from low taxes which fuel its economic growth. With a population of not even 35,000, this constitutional monarchy has developed into a prosperous, highly industrialized, free-enterprise economy and one of the richest countries in the world.

The economy is characterized by a large number of SMEs, benefiting from low business taxes and easy incorporation. The country enjoys customs union and even uses Swiss franc as national currency. Liechtenstein also cooperates closely with its EU neighbors. It is an ideal place for a short stop when visiting other European countries.
