Norway

This Nordic country occupies the western portion of the Scandinavian Peninsula and is well-known for its extensive & beatiful fjord coastline. The modern history of Norway is marked with rapid economic growth fueled by the exploitation of large oil & natural gas deposits. Norway continuously ranks among the wealthiest countries in the world. Even during the latest financial crisis, the Norwegian kroner remains one of the world’s strongest currencies.

Norway is a good example of a successful mixed economy combining free market principles with large state ownership, especially in the petroleum, hydroelectric energy, aluminum, banking and telecom sectors. Norway’s universal healthcare, subsidized higher education and a comprehensive social security system make it one of the best places to live (based on UNDP Human Development Index).

Despite rejecting EU membership in two referenda, Norway has close links to the EU and participates in the EU's single market. The country forecasts continued growth in the years to come.
