Slovenia

Slovenia is undoubtedly the strongest and most advanced country of former Yugoslavia. Bordering on Austria and Italy, it has always had ties to Western Europe and thanks to its strong economy and stable democracy it soon transformed itself into a modern state that is now part of NATO and EU. With the highest GDP per capita in the region, Slovenia was the first of all the transitioning economies in Central & Eastern Europe to join the Euro zone in January 2007. Stable growth powered by structural reforms, excellent infrastructure, well-educated work force and good central location have enabled Slovenia to take a lead in the region.

Slovenia is largely an entrepreneurial country. Majority of Slovenian companies are in the trade & commerce, manufacturing, services, real estate and communications sectors. More than 90% of Slovenian companies are classified as SMEs.

Despite its impressive economic progress, there are challenges ahead. Privatization has not been complete and the country lacks behind in attracting FDI. Further reforms are necessary for Slovenia to remain competitive in today’s global marketplace.
