Save Turtle is a passionate organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of marine turtles. Committed to reversing the threats faced by these majestic creatures, Save Turtle focuses on raising awareness, implementing conservation initiatives, and fostering sustainable practices. Through education, research, and community engagement, the organization strives to ensure the survival of endangered turtle species. Save Turtle's holistic approach aims to create a harmonious balance between human activities and fragile marine ecosystems, advocating for a future where turtles thrive in their natural habitats.

Project Brief: Save Turtle is looking to work with a dedicated group of students who can assist in the following areas:

  • Strategic Communication Planning: Raising awareness on poor conditions in turtle hatcheries is a key challenge. We seek assistance in devising strategic communication plans to campaign against confining healthy turtles in pools.

  • Partnership Development: Guidance on initiating partnerships with universities and hotels in Indonesia and Sri Lanka and exploring ways to involve them in sea turtle protection initiatives.

  • Impact Assessment and Monitoring: Support for monitoring and evaluating the sea turtle situation in Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Students will need to assess the understanding and awareness among local society, tourists, government, and agencies.

LiquidGold Africa

LiquidGold Africa, a pioneering force in sustainable sanitation, collaborates with Ukukhululeka "BeFree" to revolutionize citywide solutions. Committed to local-led initiatives, they address the sanitation crisis in peri-urban settlements. With a focus on nutrient recovery for agriculture, urban farming, and community engagement, LiquidGold Africa transforms waste into opportunities, fostering environmental sustainability, health, and resilient communities.

  • Project Brief: LiquidGold Africa's initiative aims at citywide inclusive sanitation, integrating nutrient principles. The organization requires a talented group of students to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study around the following:

  • Nutrient Recovery for Agriculture: Implementing technologies to recycle nutrients from human waste for urban agriculture.

  • Urban Agriculture and Circular Economy: Promoting local farming projects, community gardens, and green spaces using organic fertilizers from sanitation waste.

  • Community Engagement and Empowerment: Inclusive sanitation practices through community involvement and behavioral changes towards sustainability.

  • Environmental Sustainability: Reducing pollution, improving soil quality, and ensuring a healthier environment through properly managed sanitation waste.

The Stoplight Approach

The Stoplight Approach International Association (SAIA), a non-profit registered in British Columbia, is dedicated to transforming lives and communities. They provide training and resources—books, pamphlets, videos, and seminars—to enhance emotional intelligence, fostering emotional health, robust relationships, and success in various life domains. Their impact spans globally, originating with primary students in Uganda and now utilized across four continents. With a focus on deliberate growth, SAIA is creating a sustainable organization to extend its reach.

Project Brief: SAIA would like to work with a group of students who can help pinpoint potential partner organizations, understand their ongoing work related to specific Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and showcase how SAIA resources can complement and enhance their existing goals.

  • Research and compile a list of potential partners currently working on MDGs aligned with SAIA's resources.

  • Develop a concise, persuasive one-page document introducing SAIA and highlighting its potential contribution to MDG-related initiatives.

  • Create introductory letters for outreach, initiating relationships with potential partner organizations.

SafeOnline Women Kenya

SafeOnline Women Kenya (SOW-Kenya) is a dedicated non-profit organization passionately committed to empowering women in the ever-evolving digital landscape. At the heart of our mission is the drive to bridge the gender gap through robust digital literacy advocacy, ensuring that women gain equitable access to the vast opportunities of the online world. With a focus on comprehensive online safety education, SOW-Kenya equips women with the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital space confidently. Actively engaged in community outreach, we foster awareness about online safety issues, encouraging dialogue and establishing a supportive network for women in the digital age.

Project Brief: The project involves developing initiatives to enhance digital literacy, online safety, and overall empowerment for women. This includes creating educational resources, devising community outreach strategies, and exploring technological solutions to address challenges faced by women in the digital realm. Students will be tasked with:

  • Developing and implementing campaigns to enhance digital literacy among women.

  • Creating innovative online safety modules and campaigns to empower women to protect themselves online.

  • Devising strategies for engaging communities in conversations about online safety, and fostering a supportive network.

  • Exploring and recommending technological solutions to address digital challenges faced by women, contributing to a safer and more inclusive online environment.

Activate Action

Activate Action, is a youth-led community-based organization based in Homabay, Kenya. They are dedicated to working with young people living with HIV and disabilities, providing them with mentorship, training, and resources to help them address the stigma and challenges associated with their conditions. Activate Action is committed to empowering young people through a range of initiatives, including sexual reproductive health education, HIV management, mental health support, leadership training, economic empowerment, and advocacy. By engaging with their community, they hope to raise awareness and promote inclusivity for individuals living with disabilities and HIV.

Project Brief: Activate Action is looking for a group of students to help with achieving the following:  

  • Develop a Comprehensive Fundraising Strategy: Create a robust fundraising strategy that will enable Activate Action to secure the necessary funds to support the mission.

  • Mobilize Additional Resources: Source valuable partnerships and in-kind support to further enhance Activate Action's impact on the community they serve.

  • Redesign and Launch a Modern Website: Take on the task of revamping Activate Action's online presence by designing and launching a modern, user-friendly website. This website will effectively communicate the organization's goals and engage the community, fostering greater support and awareness.

EBikes4Africa

Founded in 2015, EBikes4Africa is a social enterprise that specializes in empowering local communities through e-mobility and solar-powered services. They are a small, dedicated team of bicycle enthusiasts working with a variety of partners on sustainable mobility projects throughout Namibia and beyond. Their mission is to empower local communities to take care of their mobility needs themselves and gain independence from imported products.

Project Brief: After establishing a successful presence in the Namibian market, EBikes4Africa is now planning to extend its operations to various regions and markets worldwide. To achieve this, they have created innovative solar E-Hubs and E-Bikes, which aim to cater to the diverse mobility requirements of people globally. The organization aims to target a wide range of clients, including tourism establishments, golf estates, NGOs, and development projects, both within Africa and across international markets. The E-Bikes and Solar E-Hubs will be fully customizable to suit each client's specific needs, providing them with an affordable and sustainable mobility alternative that aligns perfectly with their unique requirements.

EBikes4Africa is looking for a group of dedicated and enthusiastic students to provide insights and analysis on its market expansion. Students will be tasked with:

  • Identifying the ideal customer profiles, their geographic locations, needs, demographics, and whether the focus should be on B2B or B2C interactions.

  • Determining the most suitable funding option to initiate the expansion, considering factors such as the scale of the expansion, financial requirements, potential risks, and the company's current financial standing.

  • Analyzing various environments and user needs to determine the essential features the e-bikes should possess.

  • Finding the most suitable pricing strategy considering factors such as production costs, competition, target market, perceived value, and desired profit margin.

Success Chain

Success Chain is an international consultancy company providing customer success (CS) services to mainly SaaS and recurring revenue companies. It is a joint branding between the French-based company Success Track Enterprise and the US-based company Tri Tuns. Since 2018, Success Chain has helped companies of all sizes to put into place and evolve their customer success strategies and operations. We provide bundled and tailored consulting, coaching, and training programs adapted to our customer needs and level of CS maturity.

Project Brief: Success Chain is looking for a group of students to help further develop their methods, ROI calculator, and build a tool kit around different financial themes associated with CS:  

  • Carry out market research with SaaS and recurring revenue model companies to survey the status and best practices of measuring financial impact and ROI. 

  • Build templates for the financial impact and ROI calculator which can be used in a scaled way for Success Chain’s prospects, future customers, and their customers.

  • Begin a Success Chain "Financial Tool Kit" for CS Leaders.

The Compost Kitchen

The Compost Kitchen collects food waste in Johannesburg and converts it into 2kg of vermicompost for customers who pay $11/month. They also sell earthworms, compost boxes, and a compost machine that turns waste into compost in 5 hours. With a revenue of EUR 150,000, Compost Kitchen has won awards such as Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 and Top 300 Sustainable Organizations in the world by the United Nations.

Project Brief: The Compost Kitchen has developed a strong brand in sustainability. We need to create greater value from the subtle strengths that we have – without introducing new products and services. Our idea is to leverage our brand to obtain a corporate sponsor which pays a monthly sum in exchange for putting their branding on our vehicle, website, and social media. We require help identifying suitable players in the corporate sponsorship market as well as understanding how corporate sponsorships work/what to ask for.

  • An analysis of Corporate sponsorship models for small businesses in South Africa.

  • Case studies of sponsorship models for small businesses.

  • Details of the inner workings of typical deals (e.g. what do they expect in return?).

  • A List of potential organizations for corporate sponsorship of The Compost Kitchen.

Dalla Corte

Dalla Corte is a premium brand of semi-automatic coffee machines. The company was established in Milan in 2001 by Bruno Dalla Corte and his two sons, Paolo and Elsa Dalla Corte. Throughout its 20-year history, Dalla Corte has constantly grown and in 2019, Swiss Franke Group invested in the business, acquiring 75% of its shares. Paolo Dalla Corte has remained the company CEO and the premises are still located in Milan area.

Project Brief: Dalla Corte is looking for a group to prepare a market analysis for potential business expansion in the United States. This will include a clear overview and actionable insights detailed in a presentation that will include:

  • An in-depth market analysis of the US market including all the players such as machinery importing companies, roasters, key accounts, competitors, and end-customers.

  • An assessment of the most promising companies to start importing Dalla Corte products and representing the company brand in the US Market.

  • A final formulation of a market entry strategy considering potential partners and geographical areas.

FarmUp is a dynamic online/offline farm operations solution for horticulture producers and their staff which takes the simplicity of pen to paper logging and transfers it to the agility and speed of use of mobile devices out in the field. They focus on automating and optimizing processes within farm operations and offer a very robust service and technology to adapt what they have to various types of farms.

Project Brief: FarmUp is seeking a group of academic participants to:  

  • Improve their user interface.

  • Bring a new technical and business perspective to their project.

  • Help develop new features and functionalities for the client portal.

  • Assist in creating a set of useful analytical tools so that the clients run their farms more efficiently and greener.

Envision

Envision is a media arts collective and social enterprise based in Rwanda producing cutting edge creative arts from Rwanda’s top emerging artists. Their multimedia gallery and studio space host a diverse range of local creatives who are provided the platform, equipment, and mentorship.

Project Brief: Envision are seeking a group of academic participants to:   

  • Create a company analysis of Envision to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities regarding sustainability and impact. 

  • Come up with ideas and insights with regard to the development and strategic implementation of sustainable programs that can educate and inspire.  

  • Research potential clients or international organizations looking for commissioned work such as online or commercial distribution platforms for creative content from Africa, including film festivals or other opportunities to produce and share content internationally.

Thokozani

Thokozani (meaning ‘celebration’) has its own wine brand and guesthouse, 100% of which is owned by the staff. Thokozani cultivates and is based on the Diemerfontein Wine & Country estate in Wellington, South Africa, in the heart of the Cape Winelands. The commitment of proud owners David and Susan meant the creation of a partner company that would facilitate Black Economic Empowerment. Thokozani became the first and only BEE company to sign an exclusivity agreement with the Major South African Retailer Woolworths and recently acquired a 55% share in the Diemersfontein wine company.

Project Brief: Thokozani is seeking a group of academic participants to:  

  • Create a strategic plan for how to increase sales and market access within the USA off the back of this acquisition of Diemersfontein wine company.
